What is short term absence?
Your HR Glossary questions, answered
Short term absence typically refers to sickness or leave that lasts less than four weeks and often includes colds, minor illnesses, or personal emergencies.
Some organisations may class short term absence as anything under one week, after which time a doctor’s fit note will be required to confirm the employee’s illness, treatment plan, and how long they may be expected to continue to be absent from work to recover.
